Severin has produced the award-winning documentaries WOODLANDS DARK & DAYS BEWITCHED: A HISTORY OF FOLK HORROR; LOST SOUL: THE DOOMED JOURNEY OF RICHARD STANLEY’S ISLAND OF DR. MOREAU; BLOOD & FLESH: THE REAL LIFE & GHASTLY DEATH OF AL ADAMSON; TALES OF THE UNCANNY; and ENTER THE CLONES OF BRUCE, which premiered at the 2023 Tribeca Film Festival, as well as acclaimed features that include PLAGUE TOWN and THE THEATRE BIZARRE.
Severin co-founder David Gregory advanced the art of Special Features in the late ‘90s via his and Carl Daft’s VHS/DVD label Exploited on titles that included Bob Clark’s DEATHDREAM and CHILDREN SHOULDN'T PLAY WITH DEAD THINGS; Frederick R. Friedel’s AXE; Robert Voskanian’s THE CHILD; Leonard Schrader’s THE KILLING OF AMERICA and Gregory’s own THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE: THE SHOCKING TRUTH, which became one of the first feature-length documentaries to investigate the controversies and legacies surrounding a genre classic. By the early ‘00s, Gregory and Daft were producing dozens of Special Features for Anchor Bay Entertainment, including such landmark featurettes as Swatch Dogs & Diet Coke Heads (HEATHERS), The Wicker Man Enigma (THE WICKER MAN), A Hollywood Life: Remembering Frances (FRANCES), The Joe Spinell Story (MANIAC), Living In Darkness (NEAR DARK), Watching The Alien (THE MAN WHO FELL TO EARTH) and To the Devil The Death Of Hammer (TO THE DEVIL A DAUGHTER). Meanwhile, Gregory & Daft also began producing/directing breakthrough featurettes for top-selling international DVDs that included REPULSION, TOMMY, DON’T LOOK NOW, BADLANDS and THE DEER HUNTER via their company Blue Underground UK.
Throughout the late ‘90s and early ‘00s, Gregory produced celebrated Extras for Blue Underground U.S. featuring such icons as Roger Corman, Dario Argento, Jessica Lange, Tim Roth, David Carradine, Nicolas Roeg, George Romero, Kathryn Bigelow, Charlton Heston, David Cronenberg, Franco Nero, Winona Ryder, Raquel Welch, Christopher Lee, John Cleese, Robert Duval, Rutger Hauer, William Friedkin, Wes Craven, John Carpenter, Ray Winstone, Gillian Armstrong, Willem Dafoe, Roger Moore and Udo Kier, as well producing/directing the feature-length documentaries THE GODFATHERS OF MONDO and IFC’s THE SPAGHETTI WEST.
